Healthier Smiles, Healthier Lives: Oral Care in Long-Term Care
Poor oral care in long-term care can cause pain, infection, weight loss, and serious illnesses like pneumonia. Dr. Jeff Glaizel and the team from Golden Care Health will cover what Ontario law requires and why on-site dental care works better for residents. They will show how Family Councils can advocate for better oral care and how families can access care and Canadian Dental Care Plan coverage for their loved ones.

Beyond the Basics: Building Capacity for Inclusive Care
This presentation explores the role that Home Hospice Association (HHA) can play in bringing practical end-of-life knowledge, education, and lived experience directly to the residents and staff that FCO supports. HHA's workshops create a safe place for difficult conversations, exploring fears and talking openly about subjects that are often avoided until a crisis occurs — including preparing for end of life, communicating with the care team, supporting identity and dignity, and MAiD. Participants will leave with ideas on how HHA can connect their communities with knowledge, experiences, and conversations that help strengthen the care and support residents and families receive.

Come Along on the Journey: Bringing Families Into Person-Centred Care Transformation
This presentation explores how engaging families as active partners in Butterfly and Emotion-Based Person-Centred Care helped drive meaningful culture change. Through education, dialogue, and shared learning, families gained a deeper understanding of dementia, emotional needs, and person-centred care, evolving from participants to true partners in improving resident experiences. The session highlights key lessons, impacts, and practical strategies for building sustainable family-staff partnerships.

Participants will also explore feedback from contributors and help identify future educational needs and resources for dementia caregivers.
