Ontario Investing $26 Million to Train More Frontline Staff in Long-Term Care
1:03

The Government of Ontario is investing more than $26 million to strengthen the long-term care workforce by training nearly 3,000 new frontline staff and supporting ongoing professional development in long-term care homes across the province.

This funding builds on Ontario’s broader staffing plan and is being delivered through two key initiatives:

  • Supporting Professional Growth Fund: An additional $5.5 million (bringing this program to $15.5 million in 2025-26) to upskill staff already working in long-term care.
  • Living Classrooms: $21 million to expand practical, on-site training for Personal Support Worker (PSW) and Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) students, letting them learn and gain experience directly in long-term care homes in their communities.

This investment aims to increase the quality of care and quality of life for residents by ensuring homes have well-trained staff ready to meet evolving care needs.
