A Family Council is a place to belong — to be heard, supported, and connected to something bigger than any one caregiver navigating long-term care alone. This year, we worked to grow that sense of belonging in Family Councils across the province.

Here's what that looked like:

    • Capacity and Regional Expansion: Supported by the Ministry of Long-Term Care pilot project funding, FCO expanded its team and capacity. With more people and resources, we’ve been able to get out from behind our screens and into more long-term care homes, especially those in rural and northern communities.
    • Commitment to Equity and Research: FCO dedicated meaningful time and effort to connecting with Ontario's diverse caregiver communities. We integrated their lived experiences into our tools and resources, making equity a practical discipline in how we built materials. We are also proud to support research projects centred on the lived experiences of Indigenous, Black, African, and Caribbean caregiving communities, helping to build knowledge and inform responsive supports.
    • Connection and Strategic Partnerships: The continued collaboration we’ve built with partners like Elderado, the Ontario Centres for Learning, Research & Innovation in Long-Term Care (CLRI), and the Ontario Association of Residents’ Councils (OARC) played a key role in our commitment to advance public policy and system planning.

As you read our Annual Report, you will see milestones and featured stories from our communities, our partners, and our shared commitment to ensuring long-term care homes are places of compassion, dignity, and respect for all residents.
