Learn what family councils and family advisory committees have in common, the six key differences between them, and what that means for families.
Many long-term care homes have a family advisory committee, and families often ask how it compares to a family council. Module 2 answers that question clearly.
Module 2 builds on the key learnings from Module 1 by helping you distinguish between a family council and a family advisory committee. It explores how both models promote family voices in long-term care, while highlighting the key structural, legal, and functional differences that define a family council.
The Family Councils Foundations Program supports family members and partners in care as they learn about family councils and their important role in long-term care homes. The program is about learning and building understanding. It is not a test, and you do not need to know everything to take part in a family council.
You will be asked for your name and email before you begin, so we can understand who is using our learning resources.
