The month of November is recognized as **Fall Prevention Month** across Canada. Falls remain one of the leading causes of injury among older adults, making prevention efforts a vital priority in Ontario’s long-term care homes. This annual observance highlights the importance of coordinated strategies that help reduce fall risks and support safer environments for residents.

Fall Prevention Month provides an opportunity for **residents, families, and staff** to work together to strengthen safety practices. Simple, proactive measures—such as reviewing mobility supports, identifying environmental hazards, and encouraging regular activity—can significantly reduce the likelihood of falls and prevent injuries.

Family Councils can play a meaningful role by sparking conversations, sharing best practices, and reinforcing the need for consistent safety protocols. Through collaboration and early intervention, we can promote residents’ confidence, independence, and overall well-being.
